THERMAL INSULATION

By the term thermal insulation we call the insulation from cold and heat. The thermal insulation is divided into two categories, the internal insulation and external insulation and in both cases thermal insulating materials are applied on the walls inside and outside respectively. In this way we achieve a significant reduction of heat loss from inside the building in the winter and the entry on the inside of the building during the summer months.

Roof thermal insulation

The roof is the part of the building that receives the greatest stress from the weather conditions. In particular a roof without sufficient insulation can contribute up to 40% of the total heat loss of the building. The most efficient way for the thermal insulation of the roof is the installation of an external insulation system. Two specialized systems for thermal insulation and waterproofing of the roof are:

  • Durosol Light Roof. The lightest thermal insulation and sealing system of the market.
  • Durosol Light Roof Plus. Lightweight thermal insulation system, waterproofing and compatibility for daily use of the terrace.

Thermal insulation of the walls

For the thermal insulation of the walls have the option of the external insulation, internal and double wall insulation. However, it should be noted that the external insulation has significant advantages over other methods with the basic one: the best insulation effect, as it creates a shell in the building, taking full advantage of all its structural elements.

External wall insulation

When applying the external insulation to the building, we place, in all the external vertical surfaces of the walls,a thermal insulation material. Namely “we dress” the building on the outside using, for the most part expanded polystyrene (Durosol). Thus we achieve better thermal effects after taking advantage of the heat capacity of the walls. Furthermore, we protect the walls of the building from weather changes and this enables us to redecorate our building on the outside as the architectural choices over the system are unlimited. Internal thermal insulation

The internal wall insulation is the traditional method of thermal insulation of our house. In recent years, however, it has been replaced by the external insulation and it is applied only in special cases where the external one can not be installed. The application is made in the inner side of the walls where the walls are coated with the insulating material. However, the insulating effect is less effective and it is not preferred.

Double wall insulation

The technique of double wall insulation finds applications mainly in new buildings during their construction stage. More specifically, in this insulation method, we place the insulating material between the inner and the outer wall. The double wall insulation is a good solution for new buildings but the insulating effect with respect to the external insulation is lower because it does not take full advantage of the heat capacity of the walls. Another disadvantage is that it does not have a good seismic behaviour.
