Indeed the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation provides, at your option, two sealing layers on your roof instead of one.

The Durosol Light Roof roof insulation is light, the lightest on the market and includes the placement of the thermal insulation material as well, and not just some coating material or felt papers. Weighing approximately 9 kilos / square meter, it is the most appropriate solution for roof insulation of old buildings (made before 1980) and in general structures which can not withstand heavy weights. In terms of cost, the materials will cost you around 14 € / sq.m. + VAT and approximately with the cost of some of our partner crew, the cost for the Durosol Light Roof reaches around 20-22 € / sq.m. + VAT.

Therefore the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation is the leading method, because of the lower cost and lower weight of the market, offering excellent insulation and sealing results on your terrace. What is applied is not just a coating material or asphalt, but an expanded polystyrene insulation material in plates and even the most improved and suitable for roof insulation, the Durosol third generation insulation material. The only case where the Light Roof roof insulation does not suit you is if you want to make very frequent use of your roof, that is to say, sitting in chairs, tables etc. In this case, however, the solution is the new method for lightweight insulation roof with full compatibility, the DUROSOL Light Roof Plus, where granite tile is added as a finishing coat. But if you just want to put a solar panel on your roof or occasionally climb to hang your clothes or for other similar jobs, there is no problem at all and the best and most economical option is the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation.

Insulation – Application Stages

To get a clearer picture of the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation, we briefly present their implementation stages below. If you want to be informed even better, about the particular roof insulation, you can then see a video of our company, with the whole process of the application process.

  1. The first step in the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation is to check if there is any inclination on the roof, i.e. if there are any flows or stagnant waters. If we find some local problems we pull some stitches and furthermore if the height of the cavities is more than 2 cm we repair the flows with reinforced cement, otherwise we normally proceed to the next steps.
  2. The next step is to check whether the surface of the roof is rotten. If so necessarily we place a coating of polyurethane primer with a consumption ≈200 gr / m², otherwise go to the next step.
  3. . Thereafter, the insulation, if we want some extra waterproofing we can place two coats of PU or ST polyurethane coating material. We pay attention so that the second coat to be applied least three hours after the first coat. The double waterproofing is recommended in the case when there is primarily a sealing problem on the roof (water enters the house when it rains).

  4. Now what follows is the most important and effective step for the insulation, the pasting of the 3G Durosol thermal insulating material 100x50cm with a minimum thickness of 5cm, so that your insulation can have a real effect. – On surfaces such as tiles, felt paper and coating materials, the pasting is made with polyurethane foam, which is placed around and in the center of the Durosol plate, as in the image below.

    On concrete surfaces, the Durosol insulating material is adhered to the FGL-Thermo I cementitious adhesive, which is also placed around and in the center of the Durosol plate.

    In light insulations, the Durosol placed like a built-in with 2cm expansion joints from walls and parapets and 0,5cm / 10m. At points with problematic flows we pull some stitches with the pre-calculated Durosol thickness, so when doing the pasting, we can bring Durosol face to face with the stitches, filling the bottom part with polyurethane foam or FGL-Thermo I.

    This is done in the case of small problems with flow, but if there are no gradients on the roof, the crew should use more adhesive to “play” with different thicknesses of insulation, starting for example with 5 cm of insulating material in the gutter and increasing by 1cm thickness for each meter of the terrace length. So for a pitched roof with dimensions of 12 × 8 we will need insulating material from 5-10 cm, with the average thickness reaching 8cm.

  5. After the insulation material is placed, the next step in the insulation of roofs is to place the FGL-Thermo III adhesive over the entire surface of the Durosol with a notched spatula 1x1cm while it is fresh and we encase the fibreglass mesh 5x5mm 160gr / m² with the smooth side of the spatula.
    Attention! The application temperature is 5 ° – 35 ° C, while the FGL-Thermo III is mixed with 7 liters of water per 25 kg. No more! The surface should not be pressed up to four days after the application of the FGL-Thermo III. In case of high temperature in the environment and the roof, what is recommended is to wet the mortar. In particular it is good to perform some spraying after application and another one the next morning. To avoid any deterioration of the mortar and for the FGL-Thermo III to thicken, it takes about 24-48 hours before any rain, depending on the current weather conditions (temperature and humidity).
    We do not place a second coat. By boxing the fibreglass mesh surface will have a “wafer” look. We have to move the spatula 2 times over the fresh mortar to smoothen it. When the FGL-Thermo III has dried, if any further polishing of the surface is needed, we rub it with sandpaper and apply the FGL-Thermo III. We do not apply a second coat with the trowel! If we want to apply a second coat, it is necessary to put a fibreglass mesh again.

  6. Completing the insulation of roofs with the innovative and economical method Durosol Light Roof, we apply two coats of silane ST resins, since the FGL-Thermo III “binds”. We must pay special attention so that the surface is clean and dry. Now that is dry and there is no moisture, the next day we apply the ST coating (better at noon – afternoon to escape even the morning humidity). We pay attention to the second coat, to apply it at least five hours after the first, and in any case we do not put any solvent in the coating material. Finally we should not forget that the ST coating material should only be applied with a roll with middle bristles or a sponge, but not with a brush.

So for a pitched roof with dimensions of 12 × 8 we will need insulating materials from 5-10 cm, with the average thickness reaching 8cm. So the extra cost of materials for the roof insulation will be about + 0,4 € / m² for the adhesive and + 3,5 € / m² for the type 8 insulation material instead of the type 5 one. If we add an additional cost of 1,5 € / m² without the work required for the insulation of the roof, finally the cost for creating the flows will reach 5,4 € / m². Therefore the costs for the application of the Durosol Light Roof on a roof without any flows will reach approximately 26 € / m² + VAT, for all materials, works and flow creation needed for the roof.
As you can see, therefore, the value of the materials for the Durosol Light Roof roof insulation solution is around 14 € / m² + VAT, while the cost of installation by our authorized partners is ~ 7-8 € / m² + VAT. IF THE CORROSION HAS STARTED, NO TYPE OF ROOF INSULATION CAN GUARANTEE THAT THE PLASTERS WILL NOT PEEL OFF AND FALL, SINCE WATER HAS ALREADY PASSED THROUGH AND DAMAGE HAS BEEN CAUSED.

ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM ABOVE CAN BE DONE WITH THE FOLLOWING STEPS.

  1. Define that the ceiling is empty of not (YOU JUST HAVE TO TAP AND YOU WILL FIND OUT).
  2. AFTER HAVING NOTED THAT THE CEILING IS EMPTY, WE SHOULD RIP THE PLASTERS, TO SCRAPE AND COAT THE IRONS WITH MINIUM.
  3. WE APPLY A LAYER OF CEMENT-LIKE SEALANT.
  4. WE DAUB THE PLATE AGAIN.
